Betta fighter gills sticking out or betta gills stuck open.
Causes of betta fish symptoms
- Overflaring the betta fighter too often, causing the gills to get stuck open.
- Another possible cause is bacteria or parasites in the water entering through the gills, leading to abnormal symptoms or gill inflammation.
Treatment
- Change 50% of the water in the container. If the water appears dirty, change all of it.
- Add a small amount of salt.
- Add dried Indian almond leaves to help stabilize the pH. The tea-colored water also helps the betta relax, as it is closer to its natural environment.
- Do not allow the betta to flare until it has fully recovered.
- Use medication to eliminate protozoa and external parasites that can cause abnormalities of the skin and gills, such as Rid Protozoan.
*** During this period, you may stop feeding the fish for 1–2 days.
*** The treatment results depend on each individual fish, and the fish may not recover 100%.
*** In the case of a folded gill, it happens when the betta flares and hits the jar. This condition cannot be cured.
